10 selection criteria

Keep this list next to you during any demo. The order matters: the first three decide your revenue, the rest decide your daily workload.

1. Fee model: commission or subscription?

A percentage per booking gets expensive exactly when your courts are full; a flat subscription does not grow with revenue. Check whether players pay a separate "service fee" at checkout: it sits on top of your price without reaching you. Worked example below.

2. Open matches and level matching

The biggest cancellation reason in padel is a missing fourth player. The software must let three players open their booking to the public and find a fourth at the right level, using a standard scale such as 1.0–7.0.

3. The app your players will use

The player app matters as much as the admin panel. Is it on the App Store and Google Play, does it push notifications, can a player invite friends and split the cost? Web-only systems send players straight back to WhatsApp.

4. Data migration

You must be able to move existing members without typing them in one by one: bulk invitations, quick membership with a club code, and existing balances entered as opening balances. Without that, migration takes weeks and two systems run in parallel.

5. Tournaments and leagues built in

Commission or subscription? With numbers

There are three fee models on the market. Which one is cheaper depends on your occupancy: the fuller your courts, the more a commission model costs.

A) Commission per booking

No fixed fee, a percentage of every online booking. Anybuddy PRO in France markets this as "0 € fixed fees". Attractive at launch, the most expensive option once courts are full.

B) Subscription plus a player service fee

The club pays monthly and players pay an extra service fee on every online payment. Playtomic Manager (Standard, Professional, Champion and Master tiers; no prices on the site) and MATCHi (4% of the booking value charged to the player) use this model. The player fee raises your effective price without reaching you.

C) Flat monthly subscription

Worked example (hypothetical)

A 4-court club sells 6 hours per court per day at €40: monthly online revenue 4 × 6 × 30 × 40 = €28,800. A 5% commission is €1,440 a month. The same club on a published flat subscription pays roughly €50–€550 a month depending on the vendor. If occupancy halves, the commission is still €720; the subscription does not move. Commission only makes sense for a brand-new club with very low occupancy.

Do you need Playtomic to get players?

Playtomic is the largest padel marketplace and the default answer in Spain, Italy and much of Europe. Its value is the player network: a club on Playtomic is visible to every player who already has the app. The costs are the subscription, a commission on marketplace payments, and a non-refundable service fee the player pays at checkout, which makes your court look more expensive than your list price.

The trade-off is ownership. In a marketplace the player relationship belongs to the platform; when you leave, the players stay with the app. Club-owned systems such as CourtReserve, Playbypoint, 1club or QReserve argue the opposite: your members, your data, and open matches that are still public but attached to your club. For a club in a market where Playtomic has little coverage, such as Turkey in 2026, the network argument disappears and a club-owned system with public open matches is the practical choice.
