Istanbul has the deepest tennis history in Turkey, and that shapes what an amateur can find here. At the top sits the Istanbul Challenger, an ATP Challenger Tour event played on hard courts at TED Tenis Eskrim Dağcılık Spor Kulübü in Tarabya; the 2026 edition ran from 7 to 13 September. Between 2015 and 2018 the city also hosted the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open, the first ATP Tour event in Turkey, on clay at Koza World of Sports, with Roger Federer winning the inaugural title. On the women's side, the WTA İstanbul Cup ran from 2005 to 2022, its last editions at the TTF Istanbul Tennis Centre in Sarıyer, opened in 2020. That is why court quality and officiating in Istanbul are a notch above the national average.
Below that come the two layers that matter for you. The Turkish Tennis Federation (TTF) publishes a national calendar each year with under-12 to under-18 age groups, an adult (Büyükler) category and Masters brackets starting at 30+; a player's ranking counts the best six singles and best two doubles results. The 2026 draft calendar runs a Winter Cup series in January–March, a Summer Cup in July–August, the Turkish Championships in late August and an Autumn Cup in September–October; the 2026 adult Turkish Championship was played at TED on 22–29 August. Clubs also compete in the Turkish Tennis League, where Istanbul sides such as İTESK, Istanbul University, Taç Spor and TED play in the Marmara group; the 2025 finals were held at Taç Spor in December with 27 teams, and a development league for 12–14 year olds was added in 2026.
The base layer is club competition. QReserve lists more than 50 tennis venues in Istanbul, and member clubs in districts such as Sancaktepe, Ataşehir and Çekmeköy run round-robin point leagues, knockout brackets, challenge ladders (defi leagues) and doubles leagues. No license is needed, results feed your ELO, and the live list above this article shows exactly these events.
The road to a national tournament runs through a club, because a TTF license is issued through a registered club and no club licenses a stranger. Once you join a club on QReserve, start with the defi league: you challenge the player one rung above you and take their place if you win. It has no fixed match day, which makes it the format most tolerant of Istanbul traffic and of a foreigner's irregular schedule. Then enter the point league, where everyone plays everyone and your ELO settles. Finally play the club's knockout tournament, where seeding follows ELO.
Doubles leagues are the club format closest to the national system, since the TTF ranking counts doubles separately and the Turkish Tennis League is team-based. On QReserve a doubles entry is a team entry: your partner must also be a club member, and capacity and the deadline count per team. As a newcomer you may not have a partner yet. The open tennis matches in Istanbul are the quickest way to meet players at your level, and many doubles pairs form there. Look for a complementary partner rather than a mirror image: two baseliners struggle against a single competent net player.
After a full club season with an ELO in the club's top quarter, you are ready for a national event. Your club applies to the TTF for your license; tournament entries then go through the federation's i-Kort portal, and ranking points start from your first match. Only registered clubs may host national tournaments, so the venues are club facilities, and picking one you already know avoids surprises with the court surface.
From November to March the outdoor calendar depends on rain. Clubs move leagues into bubbles or indoor halls, hourly prices rise, capacity shrinks and entries close early, so register the moment a winter league opens. The TTF Istanbul Tennis Centre in Sarıyer opened its courts to hourly public booking through i-Kort in 2026, and the municipal Spor İstanbul network runs outdoor courts at sites such as Florya, Bostancı, Pendik and Tuzla for players on a budget.
